![]() ![]() Srivastava had been hooked by a different sort of lure-that spooky voice, whispering to him about a flaw in the game. Ticket designers fill the cards with near-misses (two-in-a-row matchups instead of the necessary three) and players spend tantalizing seconds looking for their win. Instead of just scratching off the latex and immediately discovering a loser, players have to spend time matching up the revealed numbers with the boards. Although extended-play games-sometimes referred to as baited hooks-tend to look like miniature spreadsheets, they've proven extremely popular with consumers. One important strategy involves the use of what lottery designers call extended play. As a result, many state lotteries have redesigned their tickets. But in the past two decades the competition for the gambling dollar has dramatically increased. ![]() There was a time when scratch games all but sold themselves. (In a 2006 survey, 30 percent of people without a high school degree said that playing the lottery was a wealth-building strategy.) On average, households that make less than $12,400 a year spend 5 percent of their income on lotteries-a source of hope for just a few bucks a throw. These high-frequency players tend to be poor and uneducated, which is why critics refer to lotteries as a regressive tax. While approximately half of Americans buy at least one lottery ticket at some point, the vast majority of tickets are purchased by about 20 percent of the population. (Forty-three states and every Canadian province currently run lotteries.) In some states, the lottery accounts for more than 5 percent of education funding. Since 1964, when New Hampshire introduced the first modern state lottery, governments have come to rely on gaming revenue. In the 18th and 19th centuries, lotteries funded the expansion of Harvard and Yale and allowed the construction of railroads across the continent. These tickets have a grand history: Lotteries were used to fund the American colonies and helped bankroll the young nation. The North American lottery system is a $70 billion-a-year business, an industry bigger than movie tickets, music, and porn combined. I can figure out how much gold is underground." If I know the forces, I can decipher the samples. There are fundamental geologic forces that created those numbers. "The numbers might seem random, as if the gold has just been scattered, but they're actually not random at all. "My job is to make sense of those results," he says. He has a neatly trimmed beard and a messy office. Srivastava speaks quietly, with a slight stammer. "This is the smallest amount you can win, but I can't tell you how excited it made me," he says. Srivastava matched up each of his numbers with the digits on the boards, and much to his surprise, the ticket had a tic-tac-toe. If three of "Your Numbers" appeared on a board in a straight line, you'd won. The goal was to scrape off the latex and compare the numbers under it to the digits on the boards. On the left was a box headlined "Your Numbers," covered with a scratchable latex coating. Its design was straightforward: On the right were eight tic-tac-toe boards, dense with different numbers. Blaze is still cool and inoffensive, and seeing Sonic and Tails rocking it alone is great stuff - the story doesn't take itself too seriously. Cutscenes are really something that goes against the grain of the fast-paced arcade style action that we expect of Sonic, and indeed is chock-a-block in Rush Adventure.Īll in all however, we have no qualms. The storyline in Rush Adventure is pretty good, although the cutscenes - while mildly amusing in places - can be pretty intrusive. Sonic and Tails end up stranded on a strange desert island, and they come across an Aussie-accented raccoon called Marine. There are also some new characters to meet here, too. It's not something we see being appropriate for every Sonic game, but as a fresh new gimmick it makes Rush Adventure feel pretty unique without becoming tedious. You simply draw your course on the sea chart using the touch screen and, depending on which kind of ship you use (there are four different kinds, all owing to different types of sea terrain) you enter a short minigame where you actually venture to that location, avoiding enemies and bombs along the way. Exploring the ocean uncovers new areas, but various cutscenes will give you a helping hand as to where to plot your next course, if you just want to blast through the Zones. In the sequel, this is replaced with a sea chart that is fully explorable using ships and submarines. In Sonic Rush, you had a world map which showed the stages which you had to progress to. Owing to the 'Adventure' part of the game's name is the new major addition to the gameplay. That savvy - the use of a minimal number of characters and the return of zone gimmicks and other design features that defined a Sonic game - has been explored further in Sonic Rush Adventure, a sequel that once again deals with the dimensional rifts taking place between the worlds of Sonic and Blaze. It certainly wasn't the perfect Sonic game (and many even said that the reason it was critically acclaimed was because it wasn't as lame as recent console titles), but it showed that a decent game could be made with a little original design and some franchise savvy. BUT, there are a lot of arguments about whether or not the Kais are considered Gods in the DB universe or not so I guess it's really up to opinion. Their title gives them the name God (for example "East Kaioshin" could be translated as "East God King of the Worlds"). Just like how Kami and Dende are the guardians of Earth but they didn't create the Earth. It's true that they do have the duty to protect both the living world and the world of the Kais but they did not create the universe. The Kais are the guardians of the universe. ![]() I've seen a lot of people saying that this is like Goku pretty much threatening a God. Just the symbolism of this scene is enough to cement it in history. The Supreme Kai eventually realizes that he can't stop Goku and gives up, much to Vegeta's delight. It's one of the great moments in Dragon Ball Z where the characters say nothing and yet it provides an amazing atmosphere. The next few seconds had absolutely no dialogue whatsoever but the stare down between Goku and the Supreme Kai while Vegeta and Gohan simply look on with shock itself was so intense. To everyone's surprise, including Vegeta's, Goku raises his hand at the Supreme Kai and prepares a blast directed at him. He says that if Goku wants to fight Vegeta then he would have to go through him first. However, the Supreme Kai opposes the thought of their fight saying that they should be more concerned with preventing Majin Buu from being freed. To convince Goku even further, he kills several spectators and attempts to kill more until Goku finally agrees to fight after seeing that there is no other way. ![]() It was time for them to settle their fight once and for all.
